Club History
About
The Glenlyon & District Pony Club was established in 1965 by Mr Frank Irving, following large interest and other clubs forming in many country districts by horse riding enthusiasts. The first rally held on his property and was a huge success and many followed at various locations. Club membership stayed strong over the years and many riders proudly grew and represented the club at local and state events in many disciplines including dressage, show jumping, eventing, musical ride, team flat and games events.
The club has been based at the Glenlyon Recreation Reserve for many years. A beautiful, all inclusive ground that caters for many disciplines within its surrounds, all year round. It’s lush green ovals and large grass areas, sand race track, state qualifying cross country course through its undulating hills, a large sand dressage arena, large parking facilities, playground, heritage clubrooms and much more.
Glenlyon & District Pony Club has hosted many successful events over the years from our rallies (for local pony clubs, adult riders and riding for disabled groups), clinics, gymkhanas, our annual state qualifying horse trials, to Zone show jumping and dressage days.
Glenlyon & District Pony Club proudly supports and works together with the Glenlyon Adult Riders, local RDA, Glenlyon Sports Day, Daylesford Agricultural Show, Glenlyon Fire Brigade and many more local events and community groups.
Today 50 years on, we are still growing strong and proud of our heritage, facilities and grounds. The Frank Irving memorial trophy is awarded annually by the District Commissioner, in recognition of Mr Irving’s dedication to the club and his embodiment of the meaning of Pony Club and Communities.
The Glenlyon & District Pony Club meets the 3rd Sunday of each month. Please feel free to come and visit. For further information or to pre book a come and try day please contact us for more information
